Our policy

Startingblocks

Startingblocks is based on the idea that children are naturally curious, have (self)confidence and are open to the world around them. A lot of attention is paid to the way in which the pedagogical staff guides young children in their multifaceted development.
In practice, this means that we work with themes. Working with a theme is clear and concrete and also gives children many options for their own interpretation. Within the themes there is plenty of room for creativity, singing, music and dance. Working with Startingblocks allows us to offer many extras in addition to childcare, making the connection with school smoother.
We greatly value importance to the flow of children from childcare to school. The added value of the collaboration with the school is especially effective if the children who have worked with Startbloks during the care period actually move on to the school with the same working method and vision.
All our employees receive an Internal Startingblocks training provided by Janneke Hagenaar from Bureau Hagenaar.

Safety and well-being

A safe and familiar environment is the basis from which a child can develop. De Kleinste Reus should be a place where children enjoy going. When a child feels confident, he or she has the energy to play and learn uninhibitedly.
By striving for a warm, trusting relationship between educational staff member and child, the child gets the feeling that he or she is well cared for and respected. It is important, among other things, that the child must know where it stands. That is why the children spend the day in their own familiar group with their own trusted pedagogical staff. To ensure continuity, children must visit the daycare center at least two days a week.
Children are interested in each other from a very young age. They try to contact each other and communicate. Familiarity between young children is created by regularly playing together.
Furthermore, De Kleinste Reus works with a fixed daily rhythm that ensures regularity and clarity.

Indoor and outdoor space

The building and furnishings of the daycare center meet the requirements necessary for the safety of the child and give children a feeling of security.

The group rooms suit the age level of the children. All age groups have sufficient play and development opportunities. The rooms are made up of different play corners (the house corner, with a kitchen, the construction corner, reading corner, the theme corner and the storytelling table).

The collaboration with the school makes it possible to use facilities such as the gym, the studio and the theater hall.

The toys have been chosen with care. Preference is given to durable toys with a learning element. Educational toys invite the child to actively play, to try out, invent and try something different. It continues to fascinate and stimulate the imagination.

In addition to toys specially designed for children, we let the children play with all kinds of other objects and materials. Children can learn a lot from common utensils. Leaves, branches, tree bark, cups, paper towels, corks provide many opportunities for creative expression.

The schoolyard is completely enclosed and is designed as a natural playground. With the vegetable garden, all the greenery and tree trunks, there is a lot to discover.

The four eyes principle

The Amsterdam sex case has made it important to look even more critically at child abuse and abuse within childcare. In response to this, the Gunning Committee has issued advice, the four-eye principle.
To work as transparently as possible, windows have been installed in doors and walls between the different rooms. Windows have also been installed between the group room and the hallway, which is also connected to the team room.
We implement the four-eye principle by, for example, providing a view of the group rooms through windows. For that reason there is also a window between the bathroom and the group room. Because bedrooms are isolated from the group rooms and cannot be seen from outside, we have a baby monitor connection with camera between these rooms.
